ABOUT THE PROJECT
Nowadays, the traditional and cultural values don’t always line up with people’s current artistic points of view, espectially in religios monuments undergoing restoration converted from church to mosque So why we don’t merge them and end up with a hybrid design culture. This would reaffirm our connection with our past but also show how well we’ve adapted to present day designs.
During my research I discovered that there was a lot missing in this subject. Especially the new carpet that is designed for the reopening of Hagia Sophia is not in harmony with its history, and instead should be designed in a way that integrates the old design with a modern twist.
This method development pushed me to study the patterns of past and present religious structures and present an intertwined design. Hence, when applied on Hagia Sophia where the universality of the design can be observed, we can see that there is a blatant connection between the past and the present.
